Adewole calls for the establishment of Humanitarian Peace Garden









The Minister of Health, Professor Isaac Adewole is calling for the establishment of Humanitarian Peace Garden to serve as a designated area for humanitarians in the health sector.
The Minister made the disclosure at the Humanitarian Response Team meeting in Abuja.
Adewole explained that the maiden National health humanitarian forum would serve as a platform to discuss and honor exemplary individuals in the humanitarian sector.
“The Forum has been convened to arrive at a consensus for the best modalities towards developing a systematic approach for health sector response to humanitarian crisis, as well as to provide deliberate next steps for the contextualization of issues”.
The Minister hinted that the reconstruction of the North East has been a tortuous one, challenged by ongoing strife .
“The resilience of the people, the sacrifice of so many and the goodwill of the world and well-meaning leaders and exemplary individuals from all sides of the divide has helped greatly .Government and non-governmental, international and national partners, private sector and philanthropist, religious and traditional leaders as well as the academia has paid huge sacrifice”.
According to the Minister ” the Federal Government had received disturbing reports of rapidly increasing trend of mortalities in the North Eastern states occasioned by the lack of basic health and nutrition for the affected population.
“In response to this dire situation, a rapid response team was immediately deployed to assess the situation in conjunction with the state ministry of health and partners so as to develop a need based plan of action, while helping to provide whatever service was possible at the time.”
