The leadership of Adekunle Ajasin University Akungba Akoko Student Union (AAUASU) has declared a continuous intense protest starting from 13th May, 2022 till their demands are met adequately.
The body stated this in a statement signed by Comrade Ogunsanmi Kolade, the President of the union.
He called on all conscious AAUA students to return back to the university community and join the protest calling for the end of ASUU strike.
The statement is as follows; the leadership of AAUASU, under Comrade Ogunsanmi Kolade, met with the leadership of the AAUA branch of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, led by the Chairperson, Prof. Simon, to discuss salient internal issues of the ongoing national strike.
“During the meeting, the representatives of the Students’ Union passionately appealed to the members of ASUU-AAUA to pull of out of the ongoing national strike like their State University counterparts that are not party to the strike. This is considering the cries of the over 21,000 students of AAUA.”
“After an exhaustive deliberation, the leadership of ASUU-AAUA declined our plea, stating among other things that “the University would not have been existing by now if not for ASUU struggles”. They opined that they are ready to remain firm with the ASUU cause considering the fact that the major structures in the university today are signatures of ASUU struggles.”
The President of the leadership of Students’ Union have no other option than to continue to put pressure on the government.
While noting that the protest will commence in Akungba with convergence at the University main gate.
