Urue Offong/Oruko Council Chairman rallies support for Tinubu, APC candidates ahead of 2027 elections

The Executive Chairman of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. Chief Uno Etim Uno, has called on the electorate to vote for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 general elections, insisting that the party’s continued leadership is crucial to sustaining local government financial autonomy and accelerating grassroots development.

Chief Uno said the financial autonomy granted to local government councils had created opportunities for improved human and infrastructural development, stressing that retaining the APC in power would help consolidate the gains recorded at the grassroots.

He made the call on Monday during a special APC harmonisation meeting held at the Banquet Hall, Urue Offong, where party stakeholders, elected and appointed officials, and community leaders gathered to strengthen unity and strategise for the 2027 elections.

The council chairman expressed concern over what he described as indications that candidates of opposition parties might reverse some of the current administration’s policies without adequately considering their benefits and long-term implications.

According to him, the people of Urue Offong/Oruko have witnessed the importance of political commitment and access to resources in driving development at the local government level.

“The body language of candidates of other political parties shows they are willing to reverse some of the bold and transformative policies of government without adequate reflection on the pros and cons of these policies,” he said.

Chief Uno maintained that the development recorded in the area demonstrated what could be achieved when political will and resources were available to elected leaders.

“Here in Urue Offong/Oruko, we have seen firsthand that when political will and resources are available, development is the end product. We are committed to the progress of our people and community made possible by the APC.

“This is why we are mobilising to sustain grassroots democracy and development. Every vote for the APC is a vote for financial autonomy for local government areas,” he stated.

He described the harmonisation meeting as a landmark initiative designed to promote cooperation among party candidates, the APC leadership, and elected and appointed community leaders.

“This meeting is unique and a first of its kind. The aim is to ensure absolute harmony among APC candidates, the party, and elected and appointed community leaders,” Chief Uno added.

Also speaking, the member representing Urue Offong/Oruko State Constituency in the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Precious Selong, said the meeting was convened to strengthen party unity, promote cohesion among stakeholders, and develop effective strategies for securing a decisive APC victory in 2027.

Selong emphasised the importance of collective action and sustained engagement among party members, noting that unity would be critical to achieving the party’s electoral objectives.

In his welcome remarks, the APC Chapter Chairman, Elder Sam Victor Umiom, described the gathering as the official commencement of the party’s mobilisation efforts towards electoral victory in 2027.

Umiom expressed confidence in the party’s support base but stressed the need to ensure that party agents were properly verified and were duly registered APC members with integrity.

“The APC has a massive support base that will deliver us victory, but we must ensure that all party agents are verified, e-registered APC members who have integrity,” he said.

Those present at the meeting included the Vice Chairman of the Council, Hon. Mrs Arit Ambit; the Council Secretary, Mr Amana Henshaw; the APC State Assistant Legal Officer, Ita Okpoyo, Esq.; the Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, Omen Bassey, Esq.; the Special Assistant to the Senate President, Effiong Oboho, Esq.; the Chapter Coordinator of ARISE with Renewed Hope Ambassadors, Hon. Umana Efombruh; and the Special Assistant to the Governor on Media, Mrs Queen Onuoha, among other party stakeholders.

The meeting underscored the APC leadership’s determination in Urue Offong/Oruko to strengthen internal cohesion, coordinate grassroots mobilisation, and consolidate its political structures ahead of the 2027 general elections.
