The Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly and member representing Nsit Ubium State Constituency, Rt. Hon. Barr. Otobong Effiong Bob, is set to host a mega empowerment programme for his constituents on Friday, October 9, 2026, at the Nsit Ubium Council Headquarters, Ikot Edibon.

The programme, which is expected to attract beneficiaries from all the wards across Nsit Ubium State Constituency, is being organised as part of the lawmaker’s constituency intervention and efforts to improve the socio-economic wellbeing of his people.

Speaking ahead of the event, Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob said the empowerment programme was designed to reach people across the constituency, stressing that the initiative was his own way of giving back to the people who have continued to support him throughout his years in the legislature.

“I’m giving back to my people. The support has been massive. We are empowering them for bigger socio-economic growth and to improve their livelihood. We will continue to do more, especially in supporting Governor Umo Eno for a second term in office and other All Progressives Congress candidates in the 2027 general elections,” Bob said.

The mega empowerment programme is expected to attract the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Bassey Eno; Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Udeme Otong; members of the House of Assembly; political leaders; stakeholders and other dignitaries.

    A RECORD OF GRASSROOTS REPRESENTATION

Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob has, over the years, built his legislative career around youth development, constituency engagement, empowerment and access to basic services.

A trained lawyer, Bob became a member of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly at a relatively young age and has continued to consolidate his political career through legislative service and grassroots engagement.

His years in the legislature have been characterised by emphasis on youth empowerment, inclusiveness, accountability, transparency and direct engagement with his constituents.

One of the notable interventions associated with the lawmaker was a free medical and surgical outreach organised for residents of Nsit Ubium, providing medical consultations, treatment and other healthcare services to more than 1,000 beneficiaries.

His constituency-focused activities have also included support for youth development and agricultural initiatives, providing opportunities for young people to acquire skills and participate more meaningfully in economic activities.

FROM YOUNG LAWMAKER TO HOUSE LEADER

Bob’s political career has been marked by a steady rise within the State Legislature.

His emergence as Leader of the Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly further elevated his role in the affairs of the Legislature and positioned him as one of the key figures in the state’s legislative and political structure.

As House Leader, he has combined his legislative responsibilities with continued engagement with his constituents, maintaining an emphasis on grassroots representation and development.

His journey from a young lawyer and legislator to one of the principal officers of the State House of Assembly has also been viewed as an indication of the confidence reposed in him by his colleagues and political stakeholders.

EMPOWERMENT AS INVESTMENT IN THE PEOPLE

The October 9 mega empowerment programme is expected to further reinforce Bob’s commitment to using political representation to create opportunities for his constituents.

Rather than limiting representation to legislative debates and lawmaking, the lawmaker has continued to emphasise empowerment, healthcare, youth development and direct constituency engagement as important components of effective representation.

The latest initiative is expected to provide beneficiaries with various forms of support aimed at improving their economic capacity, strengthening household incomes and creating opportunities for sustainable livelihoods.

For many constituents, the programme is not merely another political gathering but an opportunity for direct intervention in the lives of ordinary people across the various wards of Nsit Ubium.

Bob has also expressed his commitment to continued support for Governor Umo Eno and the political agenda of the All Progressives Congress ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The lawmaker is the APC candidate for Nsit Ubium State Constituency in the forthcoming 2027 State House of Assembly election.

With Governor Umo Eno, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, lawmakers, political leaders, stakeholders and constituents expected at Ikot Edibon, the October 9 event is poised to be a major political and grassroots gathering in Nsit Ubium.

For Rt. Hon. Otobong Bob, however, the message remains simple: representation must translate into tangible benefits for the people.

As beneficiaries gather from across Nsit Ubium, the mega empowerment programme is expected to provide another demonstration of the lawmaker’s philosophy of giving back to the people who entrusted him with their mandate.
