In a period when the rising cost of living continues to place enormous pressure on families across Nigeria, every genuine intervention aimed at reducing hardship deserves recognition. Governor Umo Eno’s decision to sustain and expand the ARISE Free Food Distribution Programme across the 31 Local Government Areas of Akwa Ibom State is one such intervention that has brought hope and relief to thousands of vulnerable citizens.

The commencement of the fourth phase of the programme, with the distribution of 217,000 bags of rice and beans statewide, underscores the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people. More commendable is the increase in the allocation from 5,000 to 7,000 bags for each local government area, ensuring that more vulnerable households benefit from this life-changing initiative.

This is not merely a food distribution exercise; it is a demonstration of responsible and compassionate governance. It reflects an administration that understands the realities facing ordinary citizens and is willing to take practical steps to ease their burden.

With the current economic challenges confronting Nigerians, many families struggle daily to put food on their tables. For widows, senior citizens, persons living with disabilities, and low-income households, this intervention will go a long way in providing relief and restoring hope.

Governor Umo Eno has consistently shown that governance is about touching lives. Through the ARISE Agenda, his administration continues to implement people-oriented programmes that directly improve the well-being of citizens. The free food distribution programme stands as one of the clearest examples of a government that places the welfare of its people at the heart of its policies.

The transparent process adopted through the State Social Register further enhances public confidence in the programme, ensuring that the food reaches those who truly need it most.

As the distribution continues across all 31 local government areas, it is my hope that this noble initiative will continue to bring comfort to vulnerable families while complementing other social and economic programmes of the state government.

Governor Umo Eno deserves commendation for this thoughtful intervention. In times like these, leadership is measured not only by policies but by compassion, empathy, and the willingness to stand with the people. The ARISE Free Food Distribution Programme is a shining example of such leadership.
