In a strategic move aimed at strengthening the effectiveness of the foremost socio-cultural organization in Oro Nation, Essu Nlap Oro, the International President, Rt. Hon. Ulap (Chief) Effiong E. Johnson, has dissolved the executive council of the Uyo branch of the organization.
The decision, which is part of a broader reorganization effort, led to the inauguration of a five-member caretaker committee mandated to conduct fresh elections within one week.
The committee comprises notable personalities drawn from across the Oro nation: Mr. Cyril Okpo (Udung Uko), Chief Victor Uweh (Urue Offong Oruko), Mr. Effiong Edohonsi (Oron), Mr. Emmanuel Ekpeyong (Mbo), and Mr. Ben Oyombio (Okobo). The diverse composition of the committee is expected to enhance transparency, inclusiveness, and efficiency in the leadership transition process.
Speaking after a meeting of the Board of Trustees, Ulap Chief Effiong Johnson disclosed that all pending court cases involving Essu Nlap Oro have been successfully resolved, clearing the path for unity and renewed focus within the organization. He expressed optimism that leadership challenges across all branches would be promptly addressed, with a complete resolution expected within the next month.
The International President also expressed gratitude to the Akwa Ibom State Government for its ongoing development projects in Oro nation, highlighting the significance of the proposed deep seaport project, which he described as a major economic catalyst for the region.
He further announced that Essu Nlap Oro would sponsor specialized skills acquisition programmes for selected youths, aimed at preparing them for employment opportunities expected to emerge from current and future government investments in the area.
The organization also commended the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, for her sustained efforts at promoting unity in Oro nation, particularly through the harmonization of the Nlap and Ntang groups. Appreciation was equally extended to Sir Victor Antai, Executive Director of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC), for his commitment to the development of the area.
Essu Nlap Oro urged the people of Oro nation to continue to support the administration of Governor Umo Eno and its ARISE Agenda, stressing the need for community ownership of government projects. The group called on residents to safeguard public infrastructure against vandalism in order to ensure sustainable development for future generations.
The organization reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening internal governance and promoting unity, development, and progress across Oro nation.
