As Senator Eyakenyi Commends Inclusive Leadership, Announces Model Secondary School for Oron
Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, has commiserated with the Executive Chairman of Oron Local Government Council, Hon. (Chief) Okon Asukwo Eweme, on the death of his father-in-law, Late Chief Etim John Emenyi, who passed on at the age of 80.
The Governor conveyed his condolences through a message delivered on his behalf by the Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Prince Enobong Uwah, during the funeral service held on Saturday at the Oron Sports Stadium.
Governor Eno described the late Chief Emenyi as a man who lived a purposeful and impactful life, noting that he was a renowned seafood merchant, a respected community leader, and a devout man committed to godly values. He said the passing of the elder statesman represents a significant loss to his family, Oron Local Government Area, and all who knew him.
According to the Governor, Chief Emenyi’s compassion, generosity, and unwavering dedication to the welfare of his community made him a pillar of strength and an inspiration to many.
“While his passing is a great loss to the family, the people of Oron and all who knew him, may you find comfort in the knowledge that he lived a fulfilled life, served with distinction, and left behind a legacy worthy of honour,” the Governor stated.
Earlier, the Deputy Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Senator Akon Eyakenyi, expressed appreciation to Governor Umo Eno for honouring the funeral through the Secretary to the State Government, whom she described as a top-ranking official of government. She noted that the Governor’s presence, even by representation, was a mark of honour to the bereaved family and the entire Oron Local Government Area.
Senator Eyakenyi commended Governor Eno’s inclusive leadership style, describing the equitable distribution of projects across the state as a hallmark of his administration. She further announced the establishment of a model secondary school in Oron Local Government Area, thanking the Governor for approving the initiative.
Delivering the sermon titled “The Ways of Herod and the Ways of the Wise Men,” the Archbishop of the Methodist Church Nigeria, Archdiocese of Oron, Most Rev. (Dr) Emmanuel Udofia, identified two categories of people in life—Herod and the Wise Men.
Drawing from Matthew 2:1–7, the cleric urged Christians to embrace wisdom, kindness, and compassion, while shunning envy and the infamous Pull-Him-Down Syndrome.

Elder Godwin Okponung, Rtd AIG Amba, Engr Bobby Onofiok, Dr Mrs Arit Etim of Universal Energy, Chief Edet Isong, Okete Okete Oro and Publisher of Newsday Newspaper, as well as other notable personalities.
