    Rewards Athletes From Urue Offong/Oruko LGA

    The Executive Chairman of Urue Offong/Oruko Local Government Area, Rt. Hon. (Chief) Uno Etim Uno, JP, on Saturday joined the Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Pastor Umo Eno, PhD, at the grand finale of the 2025 Sports Festival; a weeklong celebration of athleticism, unity, and camaraderie.

    Chief Uno, visibly delighted by the spirited performance of the Urue Offong/Oruko contingent, commended the athletes for their commitment and success. He rewarded the medalists with cash incentives, emphasizing that their effort was a source of pride for the entire local government area.

    “His Excellency’s vision is to revive sports, discover new talents, and reposition Akwa Ibom as a sporting hub for Nigeria. While we celebrate those who clinched medals, our greatest joy is that Urue Offong/Oruko played a part in this festival of unity, love, and team spirit across our State,” the Chairman declared.

    Highlighting the strength of the Area’s sporting potential, Chief Uno noted that both the male and female football teams advanced to the semifinals, a testament to the promising future of sports in the area.

    “This is a viable foundation to build upon, and as a Council, we are committed to investing further in grassroots sports development,” he assured.

    Urue Offong/Oruko athletes who distinguished themselves include: Idongesi John Okon – Bronze, Javelin; Nelly Etim Nankere –Bronze, Weightlifting (53kg); Gift Godwin Asukwo – Bronze, Weightlifting (48kg); Daniel Edet Odiuso –Bronze, 4x400m Relay (Men); and William Edet Usanga –Silver, Swimming (100m)

    The Executive Chairman was accompanied by key stakeholders, including the Leader of the Legislative Council, Hon. Sunday Eyo; Supervisor for Sports, Mr. Emmanuel Uwe; Director of Sports, Mrs. Lucy Akpan Nosegbe, Councillors, Supervisors and sports loving Urue Offong/Oruko people.
