    11 Kenya varsity students die in road crash

    11  university students died in an accident after bus hit a truck on a busy high away after  gliding in heavy rain and left 42 with serious injuries.

    The bus was carrying a total of 58 people on an academic trip from Kenyatta university, to the coastal town Mombasa.

    The accident was said to have occurred on Monday at 5:50pm at Maungu, a distance from the capital Nairobi.

    Ten people from the Kenyan varsity died at the spot and another later died in hospital while the 42 people are injured, the injuries were taken to a hospital in the near by town of VOI , where the Kenya Red Cross said on X formerly Twitter .

    The police report stated that “The driver of the university bus was overtaking a fleet of motor vehicles and as it was raining heavily, the bus rammed to the right side of the road”

    “This prompted the driver of the truck to avoid head on collision, hence hitting the left side of the university bus “ .

    Kenyatta University expressed their grieve by stating that it was “deeply saddened by the accident and had set up a help desk at the main campus to provide assistance during this challenging time .

    Some of the injuries students are in the process of assessment for possible evacuation to Nairobi”

    Statistics shows that the 2024 was deadly with 536 people killed between January 1 and February 11th .
