As part of activities marking his one year in office, the Executive Chairman of Oron Local Government Area, Hon. Chief Okon Asukwo Enweme, has commissioned a solar-powered water project at Idu Ukpata/Afaha Eduok in Ward 4.

Speaking during the commissioning ceremony held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, Chief Enweme described access to clean water as a fundamental need and right of every citizen. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting public welfare through people-oriented projects that directly improve the quality of life at the grassroots.

The Chairman appealed to the benefiting community to take proper care of the facility, noting that the best way to attract more development is by ensuring the judicious use and maintenance of existing ones. He further urged residents to sustain the prevailing peace in the area and avoid conflicts, emphasizing that “no progress can thrive in an atmosphere of rancour.”

Chief Enweme reiterated that his administration remains resolute in translating the ARISE Agenda of the State Government into meaningful development for the people of Oron.

In Ward 5 (Udung Okung), the Chairman also commissioned another water project executed by the Councillor representing the ward, Hon. Pastor Effiong Jacob.

During visits to both wards, Chief Enweme was warmly received by enthusiastic residents. He commended the Executive Governor of Akwa Ibom State, His Excellency Pastor Umo Bassey Eno, Ph.D., and the Deputy Governor, Her Excellency Dr. Akon Eyakenyi, Ph.D., for their visionary leadership in ensuring that governance is truly felt at the grassroots. On behalf of the people of Oron, he expressed profound gratitude and pledged their continued loyalty and support to the state government.

In the spirit of the celebration, the Chairman was decorated and received royal blessings from the Idua Clan Council, led by the Clan Head, His Royal Highness, Chief Iniko Asukwo.

Goodwill messages poured in from women, youths, and traditional leaders of both wards, who appreciated Chief Enweme’s benevolence and reaffirmed their unwavering loyalty to his administration and that of the Governor.

At the Primary Health Centre, Udung Usotai, the Council Chairman also charged the contractor handling the facility to ensure its completion and readiness for inauguration within the month.

The event was graced by top dignitaries, including the Council Secretary, Engr. Asuquo, Councillors from various wards, the Head of Local Government Service, Mrs. Grace George-N. Ekpo, Supervisors, Directors, stakeholders, staff, security personnel, students, and other distinguished guests.
