Women inclusion in governance is key to National development -Action Aid

The Country Director of Action Aid Nigeria, Ene Obi is calling for more representation of women in the new government.She disclosed that Nigeria is at the lowest bottom in terms of women representation.The Country Director made the disclosure at the commemoration of the African Liberation Day in Abuja.

According to her, the issue of women inclusion in governance should be given high priority.
“The quality of decision making depends on who is in the board room. When you have 50% of the population as women. They should be given room to offer their expertise in the development of the nation”.
The Action Aid boss advised young people to develop interest in leadership position in the country, rather than taking the back seat.
“The young people need to be proactive, and seek for ways of developing different sectors in the country. In times past, several young people have ruled in the country.
But now the situation have changed, the youth need to free their mind and do the right thing”.
She further said that those engaged in corruption should be sanctioned, so as to serve as example for others.
“As long as there is corruption in the system, we cannot move forward. Until we are ready to move together and seek for the good of the country, we will remain the same way”.
The Team Lead Women in Media, Lola Oladimeji reteirated,that the involvement of women in politics is on the decline.
She point out the need to tell the stories of other African, and how to improve their cause in the society.
“It is our responsibility to highlight the plight of women, and keep them informed on how to make the right decisions. It is essential to enhance the capacity of women,
so as to improve the nation as a whole”.
