WHO seeks synergy among countries in curbing the spread of Coronavirus

The World Health Organization is calling for synergy among countries to avert the further spread of the novel Coronavirus.

While stating that at least 20 African countries will get diagnostic kits for proper and effective detection of Coronavirus.

The WHO Technical Officer, Health Emergencies, Dhamari Naidoo, made the disclosure at a sensitization meeting with journalists in Abuja.

In the same vein. Naidoo disclosed that the health body is focusing on the major nine states that have a point of entry via travel and water.

She explained that early detection of the 2019 novel Coronavirus will aid in curbing the spread of the disease,

“Our main priority right now is: Abuja, Lagos, Kano, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Delta, and Bayelsa States. We will improve on surveillance in each of the states. 13 African countries have been placed on the high priority list due to the high volume of transport to China”.

“The risk assessment is high, because of the travel between Nigeria and China. Hence, one of the main priorities of WHO is to pay close attention to the major nine ports of entry into the country.”

Speaking further, she urged the media practitioners to deviate from spreading fake news at this point in time, in order not to cause panic among the public.

“There is a need for journalists to be precise, and concise when sharing information to the citizen. We want you to transmit the right information to the people, and deviate from spreading rumors”,

In addition, she called on Nigerians to maintain good hygiene and safe food practices at all times.

The Technical Expert further noted that the health body is working together to support China at this crucial point in time.
