Uniform personnel, highest violators of traffic rules

As the Fct Ministerial committee against traffic violation records success on enforcement and drastic action against violators, a popular TV and Radio security analyst Comrade Salihu Dantata Mahmud, has identified, and discovered that uniform personnels and officers are fond of violating one way traffic, traffic light and zebra crossings.

He made the observation during his usual traffic intelligence evaluation.

“There is the need for various provost units of the Army, Navy, Airforce, Police, Civil defence,Customs,  Immigration, Prison FRSC, VIO, and even the DSS and fire service,  to carry out enlightenment campaigns on dangers of traffic violation by security agencies,  as custodians of the law who are expected to lead by example.

“World over, no country condones defiance to stipulated traffic laws. For the practical ones,  I physically came across in Wuse zone 5, Central area,  Federal secretariat and even Villa junction, most iform personnels were violating traffic either in official or private cars, which is detrimental to the FCT  Minister”s action on ensuring that traffic rules are adhered to by whosoever no matter how highly placed.”

“There were even instances where personnels enforcing the law were either assaulted or humiliated which is not right. The task force to the best of my knowledge has apprehended more than enough, and subjected them to psychiatric test or mobile court prosecution. There was even an Airforce Marshal that also fell victim, and was addressed on the need to do the needful by obeying traffic rules which he complied.”

So far, the DRTS director, Wadata Aliyu Bodinga, whose department leads the task force team is ensuring that the collaborative effort between VIO,  and other agencies is made effective through interactions and exchange of techniques.

The reason why the late Head of State, General Murtala Ramat Mohammed, was among other things, decongest Lagos and made the new capital a city free from traffic congestion, and this cannot be actualised without putting up machineries to checkmate traffic violation.
