Save The Children calls for an end to early child marriage

Save The Children, Nigeria has called for stronger coordination and effective response in ending Early child marriage, and also ensure quality health, Nutrition and education for children.

The director of Advocacy and campaign, Mr Amanuel Mamo made the disclosure at the International day of the Girl child celebration at the Junior secondary school Gwagwalada, Abuja.

He explained that early child marriage is one of the leading reasons for school dropout in low income countries.
“Such girls who are school dropout are exposed to risky factors like early child marriage and living in insecured environment”
“We want the government to step up efforts to develop and implements action plans that includes full access to health and protection of girls”
He further restates the need to develop a multisectoral action plan to strengthen girls equal access to quality education .
“There is need to empower girls in order to make informed decisions on issues that affect them”

He also charged government to place strong value on education.

“Education must be financed appropriately and incorporate all strata of Nigerians”
“We want improvement in the quality of education, health, nutrition, protection, economic and justice sectors in order to improve the lives of girls”

Mamo urged the government and world leaders to priortize girls access to health, protection, and help them in ending child marriage. “We want to remove educational barrier for girls, and provide them with the foundation necessary to learn and have access to hygiene and bathroom facilities”

The Principal of the Junior Secondary school Gwagwalada, Mr Waziri Ali commend Save The Children Nigeria
spoke on the chanleges they face in the school to be poor toilet facilities and mini hall. He called on the organisation to help build a bigger hall to accomodate more children.

One of the student Blessing Aminu spoke on how  she will like to be a politician  to enable her to make implementations that will make women to  obtain positions in management.

“We will correct the illegal act of politicians, bad government and also stop the killing and kidnapping of children and end early marriage which is one of the greatest barrier to education ”
