Not fewer than 10,000 members of the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP in Akwa Ibom State, bade the PDP bye bye in Akwa Ibom as they all joined the broom revolution currently sweeping through the nook and crany of the country.
Event which took place, tuesday at Uyo Township stadium during the APC Presidential campaign rally held in Uyo which had the Presidential candidate of the party, former military dictator, Muhammadu Buhari, and the national leadership of the party present.
At the rally, the APC governorship flag bearer in Akwa Ibom, Umana Okon Umana, was present with the party flag.
Those who dumped the PDP stated that their decision to dump the party was as a result of the failure of the PDP led government which they claim is being run by a cabal, to fulfill most of it’s campaign promises to the electorate.
They listed, non establishment of 31 industries as earlier promised by governor Akpabio during his re election campaign, ”massive un employment”, hunger in the land, as well as failure to pay workers salary as at when due among others, as reason they cannot longer sink and swim with the umbrella party.
Some civil servants amongs them who volunteered to speak with news men, said they were fed up with a system that continues to treat Primary school teachers in the state as third class citizens and expressed sadness that their 2014 december salary and other entitlements were yet to be paid.
They slammed the Akpabio administration for allegedly maltreating civil servants in the state and expressed the hope that Umana Oko Umana’s government will treat workers in the state employ with the ‘dignity’ and respect they deserve’.
They wondered why a government that boasts of being the largest revenue earner would allow it’s workers to celebrate christmas with empty stomach and no money, as according to them ” Civil servants and worstly heat, Primary School teachers were groaning in tears….
