NAFDAC set to start production of vaccines in Nigeria

The National Agency for Food Drug and Administration Control(NAFDAC) said Nigeria would soon start the production of vaccines in the country. While stating that the body is now certified on the maturity level 3 regulatory agency.
The Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye stated this at a press briefing in Abuja.
According to her, the laudable feat is preparing the country for maturity level 4 where Nigeria’s product will be rated all over the world.
She, therefore, called for the sustainability of the project such that the standard is maintained by the agency in years to come.
The Director-General commended the team members for putting in rigorous efforts to ensure that the agency meet up the necessary criteria.
“In June 2019, the World Health Organisation came to NAFDAC to start the benchmarking process. Out of 863 points, we made 600 and had 147 left in June 2019. We started organizing town hall meetings, training, and development to improve the quality management system”.
The Governing Board Chairman, Alhaji Yusuf Suleiman disclosed that the certification of NAFDAC as a maturity level 3 regulatory agency is a great milestone that will place Nigeria on the global pedestal.
He commended the government of Nigeria for supporting the agency in meeting up with the criteria for certification.
” The regulatory agency made a commitment several years ago, and the Director-General and its professional team have been quite diligent in performing their tasks. The government of Nigeria has also been encouraging in terms of investment”.
