The INEC commission has extended its condolences to the family of Nwokorie Anthony, who was shot down during a national assignment.
The body prayed that God will grant the family the fortitude to bear the loss.
INEC National Commissioner and chairman of information and Voters Education Committee, Mr Festus Okoye, stated this in a press release.
According to Mr Festus, the incident has been reported to the security agencies to unravel the circumstances that led to the unfortunate circumstances and said the culprits will be brought to justice.
He further enjoined the President General of the various Town Union in Imo State as well as all the critical stakeholders to protect the staff of the Commission engaged on national assignment.
” The security of staff is of paramount importance to the Commission, particularly with the devolution of the voter’s registration exercise in our determination to serve Nigeria better.”
Furthermore, he stated that the commission has suspended the CVR exercises in Ihitte Uboma LGA of Imo
Before this incident, the Commission suspended the Orsu and Njaba LGA of the state due to insecurity, while the exercise is taken place only at the INEC LGA office in OruEast, Oru West, Orlu and Ohaji-Egbema LGAs of the state.
Prof. Emeka Ezeonu, the Resident Electoral Commissioner further reported that the state office is trying to locate the whereabouts of two remaining staff involved in the registration exercise.
