A Prominent Member and former State Publicity Secretary of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Delta State, Hon. Iwemdi Nwaham has officially dumped the APC for the State ruling Party Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
This development happened at the Umunede Community of Ika North East Local Government Area on Wednesday.
Speaking at the venue of the event while receiving the defected member and his supporters, the Member representing Ika North East State Constituency in the State House of Assembly (DTHA), Hon. Anthony Elekeokwuri expressed his joy at the turn of events.
He added that the move was the beginning of a paradigm shift in the Umunede Community and the country at large.
Hon. Anthony applauded the defected and his supporters while promising them full support and cooperation of the PDP members in advancing the good work already put in place by the state ruling party.
He said, “I am excited because this is a man I so much respect, and looking at what is going on in the state currently and what Governor Ifeanyi Okowa has done at the state level, Iwemdi Nwaham felt joining this train will help his cause.”
He also mentioned that all hands are on deck in advancing the ward to ensure victory in the forthcoming 2023 election.
“We want to further the course of PDP in this particular Ward 11, most especially because our Governor Senator Okowa is going to be the next Vice President of the country”.
Hon. Iwemdi Nwaham who was the former State Publicity Secretary under the platform of Delta State APC, while describing what prompted his action explained that the passion to work for Governor Okowa being his Stateman was the driving force behind his decision.
He alleged that the APC as a party lacked democratic tenets and principles while registering his displeasure at the level of operation of his former party, which he described as destructive and degrading.
Nwaham recounts how the founding leader for APC in Delta State was chanced out by others who came into the party after years of the party’s existence in Delta State.
” The Founding Leader for APC in Delta State, Otega was Chanced out by Oshiomole and Omo Agege who came to meet us three years after APC was formed and took over the structuree, and now we found ourselves on the surface”.
“Most of the leader left because Omo Agege was not accomodating. Organisationally what you see in PDP is strong dispute resolution mechanism.
You just discover that time keeps going and nothing is happening.”
He hinted that his intention to move into PDP is not borne out of personal expectation, but to work hard in order to ensure the party’s victory in wide margin come 2023.
” Where I am coming from, there is nothing there, and so I have not negotiated anything where I am going. It is better for me here than staying there, where I know there is nothing. The hope that there could be something where I am going gives fresh hope besides, there are so many things I can do for them, so I am moving without preconditions.”
