The National Chairman of Alliance National Part, Asiwaju Mashood Shittu said the recent visa restriction and ban on Nigerians by the United States of America (USA) is a clear failure and reflection of lost citizen diplomacy on the part of the Federal government.
As the Trump administration claimed it had earlier communicated to the Muhammadu Buhari administration through the Foreign Affairs Ministry.
Speaking with Journalists in Abuja, the National Chairman of the party, Asiwaju Mashood Shittu called for the immediate restructuring of the foreign affairs diplomatic architecture for efficiency in the country.
“The protection of citizens’ rights internationally and proper defense of Nigeria’s diplomatic interest rather than lip service is meant to satisfy foreign interests, ignoring the foreign policy formulation that could promote, strengthen and generate greater income for Nigeria.”
“ With all the formal communication the US state department claimed it had with the Buhari administration, how come the Visa ban still got implemented. It is only Nigeria that can tolerate this nonsense.”
He noted that the imposition of sanctions by the United States, United Kingdom, Germany, and France during the Abacha administration made the then Head of state to also cut diplomatic relations with these first world countries and re-directed trade relations to Asia particularly China, India, and Korea.
“Automobiles like tata vehicles and other products were imported from the same United States of America at the onset and peak of the Boko-Haram insurgency ban the sale of Arms and weapons to Nigeria until it lifted it sometimes in 2018. It is ridiculous and berating for the international relations experts we have in our embassy in the United States as well the foreign affairs ministry to sit helplessly and watch all this humiliation happen.”
The ANP Chairman also called for the immediate evacuation of Nigerians from China due to the outbreak of the “coronavirus”.
“It is the responsibility of the Buhari administration to immediately embark on that. Even smaller countries in Africa have taken steps. All our security personnel at the points of entry into the country must also be equipped to properly screen Chinese Nationals in order to avert the spread of the virus into the country.”
He added that the Alliance National party as a party formed for the purpose of protecting Nigerians both at home and abroad is worried by all these ugly developments orchestrated by the United States of America to punish and humiliate Nigerians.
“It is the party’s resolve that the Trump administration withdraw the visa ban on Nigerians going by the large business, diplomatic and bilateral relationship the two countries have enjoyed over the years.”
Asiwaju explained that with the number of Nigerians that annually travel to the United States of America for business, educational, health and tourist-related issues, which gives a lot of revenue to America, it will be unfair to treat Nigerians badly.
“The spate of insecurity ranging from insurgency, armed banditry and kidnapping sometimes are factors necessitating migration to the United States, political asylum inclusive.”
